Lands of America recently had $79 million in land for sale in the Peace Garden State. This represents some 28,088 acres of North Dakota land for sale. The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $13 million, while the median price for land for sale in North Dakota came in at $673,432. The average price of land, ranches and rural property in North Dakota was $943,894. Lands of America research shows that over half the land in the Rough Rider State is privately owned. North Dakota wildlife management areas number 220 and cover some 207,000 acres of the state, along with other state land areas and preserves. Hunting and trapping is permitted for big game including bighorn sheep and moose, waterfowl, upland game, furbearers like coyote and fox and a number of other smaller species. In terms of size, North Dakota is the country's 19th-largest state, covering an area of 70,704 square miles (45 million acres). Of this area, 69,001 square miles (98 percent) is land, while the remaining 1,698 square miles is covered by water. Less than ten percent of land in North Dakota is public land (i.e. national and state parks, national forests, BLM land). As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in North Dakota. Of the 53 counties in the state, Ward County had the most rural property and land for sale, while Wells County was trending recently as the county with the most land sales recorded through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program.
